SINNDAR TO FACE TOUGH OPPOSITION

Trainer John Oxx is under 'no illusions' about the task facing Sinndar in the Budweiser Irish Derby at the Curragh on Sunday.

The Vodafone Derby winner is as short as evens favourite for the Classic with Coral.

But Oxx believes the race will be no walkover as the colt attempts to become the first horse since Commander In Chief in 1993 to complete the Curragh-Epsom double.

'There have been English Derby winners who have come over to the Curragh and faced easier opposition,' he said today.

'Sinndar is very well and I expect him to run up to form but I am under no illusions. The opposition is going to be tough especially from King's Best.

'He was a brilliant winner of the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket and who knows, he could be another Nijinsky.

'There's no doubt that if he stays the mile and half trip at the Curragh he'll be very hard to beat.

'In many ways I regard the Irish Derby as a harder race to win as we are meeting the French Derby winner Holding Court. He is sure to put up a mighty performance.

'It's an intriguing race but we are hopeful we can do the double.'

The ground remains good to firm at the Curragh, with sunny weather forecast for the first day of the three-day meeting tomorrow.

Racecourse manager Jason Morris said: "The going is still good to firm and we have watered today. It has been warm and sunny day.

"Various trainers have walked the course - John Oxx walked it this morning - and they have said the ground is beautiful.

"If we were racing today it would be perfect ground but obviously we have got three days to go.

"The forecast is for more warm and sunny weather tomorrow. Then there is the possibility of rain although the forecasters have not committed themselves to how much and when."

Aidan O'Brien has finalised jockey plans for his three likely representatives.

Michael Kinane will partner Ciro, Seamus Heffernan rides Glyndebourne and Damien Oliver gets the mount aboard Shakespeare.

Coral report continued support for French Derby hero Holding Court who has been shortened to 5-2 from 11-4 for the race.
